I had this problem with a Dell laptop with Windows 2000. it was something within windows though, not the mouse.
I'd be not even touching the laptop or attached mouse and it would move to the opposite side of the screen. There was an update to resolve it.

If you have a trac ball mouse, it's dirty. Turn your mouse over, twist the cover, don't lose the ball. Next, get a q-tip and dip it in alcohol, run the wet q-tip over the little metal bars to get the lint, dust and other crud loose. Let it dry for a few minutes. Put the ball back in. Twist the cover back on. You're good to go.

If you have an optical mouse, like I do on my work computer, slight vibrations can cause it to move. This happens all the time to me.

When the trap sprung it it didn't fully break it's neck. Smack it with a hammer and it'll stop... Oh you mean a COMPUTER mouse... bad connection or dirty trackball inside... trash it and get a new optical mouse. I still suggest the hammer for the old one... :-)
