It stands for Universal Serial Bus, and the correct way to write it is USB, without the dots.
In a simple word, USB is a cable that can transmit data from a device (specifically electronic equipment) to another device. It is, like the name says, a universal cable data. With a USB, you could transfer data between Desk Computers (Desktop or server-type or even supercomputer), Notebook computer (aka Laptop), PDA (aka Palmtop), cell phone (aka mobile phone, hand phone), Media Players (like iPod, etc), Flashdisk (or USB Disk), Digital Cameras, Printers and Scanners, Projectors, among many other electronic devices.
The use of USB is various, depending on the device. For example, (among many other unlimited uses)
- USB may be used to connect a computer to another computer which would then be used to transfer files between the computers.
- iPod loads it songs (and movies) from computer by USB connection.
- Newer Printer and Scanners uses USB connection rather than other older, now obsolete paralel port that used to be used on most printer (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parallel_port ).
- cameras can move pictures it takes to computer with USB data.
- A camera that follows PictBridge standard could print to a printer directly without a computer
It is currently the most used standard for electronic cable data.

Stands for Universal Serial Bus. It allows you to connect up 127 different devices at a time to a single connector on your computer. Used for external devices like printers, digital cameras, a USB mouse or typeboard, external hard drive, flash drive, etc. The USB port is also able to send a small electrical current through the cable so some USB devices will run without have to be plugged into an electrical outlet.
In fact they even has such ridiculous things as a USB reading lamp and a USB Godzilla tooth brush. I have no idea why I would want to attach a toothbrush to me computer, but they have them.

Universal Serial Bus. It was meant in part to solve the problem that the number of hardware interrupts on an IBM compatible machine is limited to 16 and that was becoming too small. All devices plugged into a motherboard (sound cards, graphics adapters etc.) need an interrupt. An interrupt can use two address so two devices can share the same interrupt. With USB up to 127 devices can share the same interrupt and address.

USB stands for universal serial bus and it was designed to replace conventional serial connection and also to provide a faster transfer of information. It is theoretically possible to connect up to 900 usb devices to a single computer although in practice you would need your own power station to generate the required power

USB means Universal Serial Bus. It is a serial bus standard to interface devices. It was designed for computers such as PCs and the Apple Macintosh, but its popularity has prompted it to also become commonplace on video game consoles, PDAs, cellphones; and even devices such as televisions and home stereo equipment (e.g., mp3 players), and portable memory devices. The radio spectrum-based USB implementation is known as Wireless USB.
USB was designed to allow peripherals to be connected without the need to plug expansion cards into the computer's ISA, EISA, or PCI bus, and to improve plug-and-play capabilities by allowing devices to be hot-swapped (connected or disconnected without powering down or rebooting the computer). When a device is first connected, the host enumerates and recognises it, and loads the device driver it needs.
A USB hubUSB can connect peripherals such as mouse devices, keyboards, gamepads and joysticks, scanners, digital cameras, printers, external storage, networking components, etc. For many devices such as scanners and digital cameras, USB has become the standard connection method. USB is also used extensively to connect non-networked printers, replacing the parallel ports which were widely used; USB simplifies connecting several printers to one computer

USB (Universal Serial Bus) is the solution for all PC users who want an instant, no-hassle way to connect new hardware like digital joysticks, scanners, digital speakers, digital cameras or a PC telephone to their computer. USB also lets you connect many peripherals at one time. Many USB PCs come with two USB ports. And special USB peripherals -- called USB hubs -- have additional ports that let you "daisy chain" multiple devices together.

Universal Serial Bus
A transit bus transfers people from one place to another
Universal Serial Bus works like the transit bus , only the USB transfers data.
A Bus is a bus, ... is a bus.... It does not matter if it is a Greyhound , County Metro, or a US Bus - it still is only a passageway for something to move through.
