I am trying to set up a friends computer. She has a new 250 gig SATA drive and I just plugged in her old IDE drive from her previous computer. I am running XP from the new drive.

First off do I still need to use jumpers to determine slave and master if one is SATA and the other IDE?

I want to get all of her files from her old "my documents" folder on the old IDE drive onto the new drive. Both drives are visable in explorer but the old my docs says access denied. I know this is because I've logged into a different windows XP on a different drive with a different user account.

I tried setting the old drive as primary in hopes to log into the old XP account just to move the files over that way but I get an ominus blue screen when it tried to launch. I think its that security measure that comes into effect when XP sees a new mother board... or something.

I also tried using the Administrator account to access it, still says denied.

Anyway, any help ASAP would be awesome

I have a Canon Powershot SD400, and I want to upload files to the memory stick (SD card). Windows XP seems to only want to let me download from the camera. Is there software or a way to upload pics to the memory card?

All right I bought a Dell about 1 year ago (since I didnt have much money and I did the monthly payment thing) and I am obviously unsatisfied. Therefore I am building a computer, but I want to keep the RAM and the Hard Drive, and of course the input devices. I have built two computers before worked on computers, but I never really picked out the parts and I need to know if these will work. ( I dont see why not)

I have RAM from my dell (2 sticks of 256MB or DDR SDRAM PC 3200)

I already have a video card PCI Express x16, a case, a 400W Power Supply, and thermal grease

I guess while your at it you could tell me what I need to look at when looking for compatibility between CPU and MOBO besides socket and FSB.

My sons' old computer has a rather interesting ability. It is an early Pentium, made by Dell. It is able to play sounds from the PC speaker through the soundcard (as well as have the PC speaker beeping as well).

Now, I'm an avid old-school gamer, and would love to be able to hear music from original The Bard's Tale series, or the 'full-auto' sound from Wasteland play through my headphones instead of being nearly inaudible. However, using it for my 80's gaming obsession is a bit out of the question, as I've run out of room in the house (and it now resides in the shed).

Removing the soundcard is also not an option, as it is physically part of the motherboard.

Is there some software that is capable of emulating this effect?

Assuming that they both have, say, 2.0Ghz speed.

Are there really two processors in intel core duo that would make it much faster and efficient?

I have a Dell PE 2550 w/PERC 3-DI RAID controller with a couple of SCSI drives being mirrored containing both the System info and company data on the mirrored Volume. I purchased a couple of 73gig drives that I'd like to put in to replace my originals and be able to expand the volume to take advantage of the extra space since our current 20 gig volume only has around a gig of space left. What is the best practice for doing this without an Acronis server application (which thru my research doesn't always work well with DELL systems), so that I can do this with the least amount of down time. My current plan of action is to make a couple of tape backups then switch out drives create the new array volume. Reinstall windows and restore from tape. Is this correct do I have to patch b4 reinstalling from tape? Will all my Apps. and data be placed back exactly to where they were? Any ideas that can make this process as painless as possible will be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Roland.
