It loads the usb mouse even if I connect the mouse to the keyboard and then the keyboard into the tower. It goes to the BIOS setup when i power it up.

Any error messages ? this sounds like a bios issue, get into bios, and set your optic drive as a first boot priority device, because by what you are saying, it has nothing to do with the OS not loading from disc.

for people who've spoke back boot in secure mode/final reliable configuration, close up and reread the question. I even have experienced this concern many circumstances, you decide on a clean installation of homestead windows, the suitable thank you to get admission to homestead windows and it is not that i'm particular why this works. Open the laptop take out the bios battery, replace 10-20sec later, attempt booting then, it may paintings without postpone from that. Else boot with a NTFS for dos cd/floppy and reproduction the data from that exhibit.

Agree with Duncan, USB 1.1 is mostly software technology so BIOS won't look there for presence of keyboard nor will it pass on to Windows, ME is of DOS descendant so BIOS can send a keyboard-existent signal but XP is of NT lineage so such Gateway signal can't get to it.

It is common this problem, try an older keyboard and windows will be able to install. After installing windows shut down and put the newer keyboard back and this will work again. Good luck
