Windows does it all the time. But it is closer to time sharing. When CPU is waiting for memory it cashe the current instructions and start the next in que.

Yup, you'll have to write a special program for executing two different threads on different cores.
You should have a hyperthreading enabled CPU or Dual Core or Core Duo for this.

Are you talking about 2 different computers using the same monitor? It can be done, but you'll need a toggle switch box to do it.

Exactly what do you mean by 2 defferent operations? If you are talking about multitasking or running more than one program at once, then yes, your processor will do that.
