It is dangerous if your file you want to transfer is a virus or worms, but this will have quite a slim chance to have. It is not bad actually, but i personally use blue tooth because it's wireless. USB data cable doesn't need another hardware while blue tooth or other method needs. So, i haven't think-ed that using USB data cable have disadvantage(s).

hi
using USB cable is a good way to transfer stuffs between cellphone and the pc.
other methods include infra-red , bluetooth transfer, or using the memory card transfer (SD, miniSD, RS-mmc, Sony MS, etc).
usb transfer is the faster way to transfer. the only setback could be the wire messing up your work area. haha.
maybe memory card has faster transfer rate but you'd need to take the card out from your phone.. and put it in, do the transfer, take it out, put it back into your phone..quite troublesome.
For memory card transfer, bluetooth, infra red, you'd need extra hardware.
that's why i say USB is the better method.
No disadvantage compared to other methods. To answer your question.
