Laptops & Notebooks - October 2006

I have to give my laptop back to work. I want to erase EVERYTHING I possibly can. I know how to do the basics with deleting history and cleaning out temp files but I want all of the stuff that is deep in the recesses of the hard drive GONE any help is appreciated! THANKS!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1300 w/ a broken LCD screen. I currently have an external monitor hooked up to it. What will happen if I remove the LCD screen to see exactly what replacement model I'll need? Will it affect my hard drive an anyway?

So I need to buy a new laptop for school and playing world of warcraft. I have a decent amount of computer knowledge so if you are just going to guess then please dont because I will know. Anyways I cant decide between an hp laptop with these specs:
NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 With AMD x2 OR 128MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7200 with Core Duo

I know the 128MB card is better, but how much? I can either get the AMD with the 6150 now...or I would wait about 2 weeks to get the core duo for about $100 more. The processor is not a big deal since I know they are close to the same thing. Also the computer will have a gig of DDR2(yuk) ram and both processors will run close to 1.73.

My questions are: Is the 128MB card much more powerful or hardly noticeable for playing WoW?
Worth the price over the AMD's card?

I have aPavillion dv5224nr notebook with Win XP Media Center. Whenever I use it to play music, the player has a tendancy to freeze up. I cant narrow it dow no a program issue because it happens in WMP 10, Yahoo Jukebox and the Media Center Player.
It happens with MP3 files WMA and Internet radio. I have reinstalled the audio and video drivers and I have just defraged the hard drive. I can play games and do everything else fine, its just when I play music.

my wireless work at other place but why doesnt it work at home...the wirless card get signal but then it sayss wireless connection unavailable and some time theres a little LOCK where it shows the connection level....i also manually put in the info from the router but now its asking for a passphrase where would i find that info......PLEASE HELP....its so frustrating....

i have a new HP laptop. It is 1.83 mhz athalon 64. I want to add an external drive. I assume that usb is the easiest method. however, new egg is asking me things like SATA and IEEE and 3934a or b and I dont know what these are or if i have them. is this a different connection on the laptop or is it a version of USB or is it important?!? I just need a good 60-120 gig hard drive external. HELP!

The laptop was dropped and was unable to boot form windows. It gets as far as the loading screen, then automatically reboots. It was taken to my university's computer department to be looked at. While they said there was nothing physically wrong with the hard drive, they opted to replace it (covered under the warranty). They provide a backup service for school data, but not for music and pictures (the later of which are irreplaceable and are the goal for this issue).

Now, because they went in to do the back up, I know it is possible to access files, meaning that the drive is not fired.

My first attempt was to use a linux os boot disk (specifically slax) and got it running, however it would not read any hard drive.

What is the best way to get the files off without going to a unnecessarily expensive computer repair store (as they always tend to be?)
