If you plan to create movies, or do something related to the art world.. then the Mac. If you want something for PC Games, school , .. etc.. Go with the Sony. There are a lot more programs out there for the Sony than there are for the Mac. Good Luck ! :)

Buy a dell if you're looking for notebooks. I'd prefer Unix based operating systems for programming. MAC OS is unix based. Windows programming is lame. Windows programmers are the worst programmers in the world. You can also install Linux on a DELL, so just because you're running a dell doesn't mean you're stuck with windows. Pretty much everything on windows requires visual studio to compile and I really don't like visual studio. Fortunately you can install all the unix tools on a windows machine if you just want to screw around with programming and do all your compiling that way, but GCC is not commonly used for windows programming. It's called cygwin. Games are better on Dell with windows. You can do entertaining stuff on any system. MAC OS comes preloaded with a few more things, but you can get software for windows very easily. It's really what you prefer. Games are the things that are going to require a really expensive computer and games almost always run on windows because microsoft has directx. Remember get extra RAM for games. Make sure you get a computer with a good GPU like nvidia or ATI. I prefer NVIDIA.

If cost isn't an issue. Go with the Mac. It will run both the Mac OS and Windows. And it will let you see if you prefer the Mac OS, while having the saftey net of it being able to run Windows.
