Laptops & Notebooks - September 2006

I'm thinking of upgrading my notebook's ram. But I don't know if I should get 1x1gb + current 1 existing piece of 256mb so that makes 1.25gb of ram for the macbook or 2x512mb which makes 1gb? Which is better? Does different amount of ram space affects the performance of the macbook?

my husband bought a laptop and we have a home computer but we need the router to work so he can get internet on the laptop, it is total crap the one we have, he'll have a connection for about 5 minutes then it just loses it? anyone else have these problems? and how did you fix them? thanks!

Lately the main battery has remained flat as flat and had to use it with the power only (not my main pc LOL). However each time I load Windows, the time/date is reset to 1980.

Now I probably need a new 7792DMT battery (£50 on ebay) but does anyone know if there is an internal clock battery or if it uses the main recharge battery for the time and date?

I'm making a set of fans that i will connect with a 4way, 4-pin power spliter. where can l get a usb cable that on the other end is a 4-pin componet power head so that i can plug my splitter into a usb port and enable it to be powered directly from the usb. if no company makes one, how would i be able to make one? thanx alot!

I have a laptop, but it's pretty old. It has a PS2 port instead of a USB but most of the things I use, use USB... flashdrives, calculator stuff, mouse..

I don't know what happened but when I try toturn on my laptop it won't turn on. It was working just fine yesterday. I have a Dell xps and it is 2 yrs old. I have heard about this battery recall but not sure if that is the cause. Please help, I tried using my power adpter too and it doesnt have power.

Help me please! Almost everyday my computer comes up with the blue screen of death saying there is an error. It tells me to disable bio memory options like caching and shadowing.. how do i do that?? Also one of the first things that comes up is driver_irql_not_less_or_equal , what does that mean? Then at the bottom it shows up with 0x000000D1 what does that mean too? I need to get rid of this because when i do homework it erases what i have done so far so i really need you people to help me! I dont want to tell my dad because he will like kill me. I have two college students (twins). They now have laptops.
Do you buy the extra coverage? What has been your overall experience. One is a girl who will be commuting home by air.
The other is a boy who will be driving home, but perhaps occasionally flying. What kind of damage have you incurred, if any, and how was it resolved, either with or without insurance.

Every now and then, my screen goes completely white, and the only thing that makes it normal again is turning it off and back on again. And also, the keyboard stops working sometimes too.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1300 laptop PC. I want to restore it so its back to its factory state. I know you can use windows to turn back the clock to a previous state but it dosnt wipe the hard drive.

I have new laptop. I plug my mp3 player & old laptop into my stereo using a Y shaped 2 RCA to 1 headphone jack with no problems. I plug into Tuner on Amp and headphone jack on old computer/MP3.

But when I tried the samething with new computer their is high pitched ringing and music is barely audible in background. I have tried soundcard settings without luck. Even if I have everything muted on laptop the high pitch is still there. I run Realtek HD Audio.

Any ideas of what to do?
