Well I need a laptop of my own because I have to use my friends for homework and other things. Do companies like Dell,Hp, and Sony have a donation for students in need of laptops?

Hi.

Yes. Many companies like HP, Dell, and etc donate companies to schools for student use. Also, there are nonprofit organizations and churches that purchase computers for students.

Your school administrators (e.g. principal or counselor) will definitely be able to help you find a computer. It might not be a shiny new one BUT it will get the job done. If someone says "no", just keep asking around.

Best wishes!

Dell has great student discounts, but unfortunately nothing that is free. Nor do the other companies.

There are a few options though that can get you one for free or for pennies on the dollar:

If you have any friends in the military, ask them to check with their supperiors about surplus laptops that are collecting dust in the storage vault. I've done this before seeking one laptop and was give 3. CF-25 with 98 on it, and a Sony Viao with no operating system at all. I still have the toughbook, but after updating all of them and ungrading what I could, I sold the other two.

If this doesn't seem to be an option, contact a local insurance agency and ask if they have any old field laptops they don't use any more. They may ask you to pay a small fee, but you'll get a laptop, completely reformated (they will not give you one with someone's insurance info on it).

Basically, any large business thats been around for 3 or more years has got one or two of these sitting around in a closet somewhere, waiting to be reformated and up-dated. I cannot promise you will get a great laptop, but you'll get what you pay for, so its really no loss to you. You may have to go and buy Windows XP install disks or something along those lines to meet your needs.
