I have new laptop. I plug my mp3 player & old laptop into my stereo using a Y shaped 2 RCA to 1 headphone jack with no problems. I plug into Tuner on Amp and headphone jack on old computer/MP3.

But when I tried the samething with new computer their is high pitched ringing and music is barely audible in background. I have tried soundcard settings without luck. Even if I have everything muted on laptop the high pitch is still there. I run Realtek HD Audio.

Any ideas of what to do?

i think there really is a problem with the laptop jack. it must be grounded or something. try other jacks to see if they would work.
