Ok so I've been attempting to troubleshoot my laptop all day long and have made quite a bit of progress, but I can't think of anything else that could possibly be causing my problem that I haven't messed with. The problem--my laptop gets zero power. From the power cord or the battery. I know both of those work, because I tried them both in another computer today. My hard drive and memory also work fine. I have completely dusted out the insides, and made sure that there is no dust blocking the ports for the battery or the power cord. The last time my laptop was working I had told it to restart, and when it turned off during the restart it never turned back on, and since then has not gotten any powering on whatsoever (no light even comes on when I plug in the charger anymore). What else is there that could be causing my problem?

Ther computer I am talking about is an old laptop that is hooked up to a monitor and I might have to mention that I only have 1.93 GB freespace (6% of harddrive) but I'm typing this question on the computer and it has no other problems other than sound. At first I thought it just stopped working because its old but then I remembered the other day that I was trying to free up space by removing programs and what I want to know is if I could have accidently deleted anything to disable the sound on my PC. Oh yeah, I have a keyboard with volume buttons wich I usually use all the time but when I try to use these keys nothing happens. Please help me anyone.

I've always partitioned my primary drives, even my last laptop. I first make an image of the existing drive, then delete, create at least 2 drives, reformat then load the image to the first partition so that I have a separate data drive. That way virus scanning, defragging and such things can be done in separate sessions, as well as the ease in handling problems with the OS without disturbing my data files. I usually like to also have a separate multimedia partition as well. I'm open to reasons why this is no longer necessary. Scanning time is of major concern because I tend to postpone virus scanning and degragging longer to wait for a huge amount of time to monitor it. We have weird power outages here, and although I have battery backup, it only gives me a few minutes of time to safely shutdown. If something happened in the middle of the night when I'm asleep I'd be clueless on how to recover most efficiently. So, what arguments are there out there for NOT partitioning?? Thanks.
