Notebook/Laptop Suggestions?

Question

I am going to make the move from a desktop to a Notebook. Anyone have any recommendations?? Anyone gone from a PC to a mac? (That is a possiblity, but not necessarly what I am going to do) Do you recommend warrenties??

It depends on what you want to your use your laptop for. I am a professioal writer so I use my laptop all the time. It's not the latest and greatest but it does everything that I need it for. My laptop is a Thinkpad A20M. The cool thing about it is you can swap out the CD rom drive, and put in a DVD drive, a CD burner, a DVD burner, or even a second harddrive in the same bay. Upgrades are also easy, and Thinkpad's website even has video tutorials showing you how to upgrade the RAM, and harddrive...very easy to do since the Thinkpad was meant to be upgraded. However, even though I use my laptop everyday, I still use my desktop PC (Alienware) as a server/ hub. I store all my documents and network my laptop to my PC's second harddrive. Plus the desktop does the firewall for the network, so when I hack in the laptop (which has a built in ethernet card), it isn't bogged down by the firewall.

I got a Toshiba Satellite M-45 over a year ago and I LOVE it. Although I haven't needed it (I haven't had a single problem) I went with a 2 year extended warranty; it even covers the battery--which is NOT a Sony.
One suggestion--shop around and if you don't HAVE to get it right now, unless you can still find a "back to school" sale either wait for a Christmas sale or for the new models to come out--the current models will usually be on sale and you can save BIG.

for the CPU go AMD... trust me. An AMD Turion MT-32/32 which is 1.6 or 1.8 GHz will run faster than a 2.66 Intel Core Duo proccessor. The reason behind this is the front side bus. The FSB is the speed at which components and communicate witht the CPU. so, save yourself some bucks, and get an increase in performance.

and try to go no lower than 512 RAM. youll notice a huge difference.

The Mac OS X is sposed to have a windows thing in it, somewheres. Look at Apple.com or macintosh? whatever and you will get the info on the newest OS from Mac/Apple. The OS X, or Operatiing System 10, is apparently Windows Compatible when shipped. Then again any Intel Mother Board can now run Apple/Windows/Linux, AMD is like outta the picture there, so maybe they are gonna die.
For media and stuff, Apple kicks, for Numerics, Linux, for internet and stuff, Windows is dominant but,but,but not in Budapest?

I recommend Sony.

As far as warranty's are concerned it depends who is covering it.
If you buy the extended warranty from Circuit City, Circuit City is not the holder of the warranty it is a third party. Namely GE Capital, also know as CSP.

They suck. I would not let them near any computer I bought.

Not sure who covers Best Buy or Comp USA.

Better off buy the computer from the manufactures web site.

and buy their extended warranty. They will have you send the computer to them if service is needed.

All 3 above mentioned companies have excellent service departments.

Extended warranties are like buying insurance. You may never need it but you'll be gald you have it if you do need it.

Remember most warranties DO NOT cover damage.

I have a Compaq Presario C303NR, and it extremely works nicely for me. it type of feels to have the best factors you want, notwithstanding it runs about $a million,000 (that is a basically right wager on my area, as I were given mine as a Christmas present).
