Ok so I've been attempting to troubleshoot my laptop all day long and have made quite a bit of progress, but I can't think of anything else that could possibly be causing my problem that I haven't messed with. The problem--my laptop gets zero power. From the power cord or the battery. I know both of those work, because I tried them both in another computer today. My hard drive and memory also work fine. I have completely dusted out the insides, and made sure that there is no dust blocking the ports for the battery or the power cord. The last time my laptop was working I had told it to restart, and when it turned off during the restart it never turned back on, and since then has not gotten any powering on whatsoever (no light even comes on when I plug in the charger anymore). What else is there that could be causing my problem?

Try resetting it as described above.

Unfortunately, I have seen this type of problem before a couple of times and it was always a motherboard problem. From my experience, unless the laptop is still under warranty (probably not after your screwing around (as in unscrewing nuts and bolts :)) anyway it is dubiuos how worth it is to send it to the supplier (check how much they are going to charge you for their diagnostic first).

If you were thinking about replacing your laptop anyway, then the best thing to do would be to just replace it. Of course, it is very difficult for us to let go of laptops and most would send it for a diagnostic test anyway. ( I have done this a couple of times).

Good luck with your laptop.

Take the battery and hard drive out an dry them thoroughly NOW. Open the laptop to a right angle and place it upside down on some kitchen paper on the edge of a table/desk/work surface so that the keys are resting on the paper. Leave it for a couple of days, longer is better, and pray. With a bit of luck it will dry with the milk away from the electronics. The chances are the hard disk will be OK but you would need another laptop or PC to try it out. I recovered a mobile (cell) phone this way after it was dropped into a bowl of hot soapy water. The shop said it was not recoverable and, because I had bought a replacement, it got left on a radiator for 2 or 3 weeks.

Well if you have done all that troubleshooting and you have determined that the battery and power supply are good it may be the motherboard.
Here are some things that come to mind
- disconnect all non essentials ( printers, docking station etc.)
- was there a lightning storm / power surge / blackout ?
- check if pin where adapter plugs in to motherboard is still there and not bent
- check the laptop with another power supply of the same wattage if available
- call your tech support, hopefully your still under warranty

First try removing the battery and keep it out of the machine for about a minute...then put it back in and try power it up again.

If that does not work it is probably problem with your power supply .. especialy if the power supply normally has a light on that does not go on any longer..

..you can get a new powers supply from
www.laptopsforless.com
but they are not cheap..
Good luck

remove the battery if it has a docking station take it off of that and unplug it. Leave it disconnected from all power for a good 2 mins. Then without having the battery in, connect only the power cable and try starting it that way.

I think it may be that your computer is getting too hot. Maybe something is blocking the vent. Once I accidental had a pillow covering the vent on my Toshiba satelite and it turned off and wouldn't start until it cooled off. My daughter's avaratec always heats up and wont start up. Or you may have spy-ware or ad-ware or a virus. Those are classic symptoms.
