I think my laptop is currently using an ide harddrive, so will there be any problems if i use this connected through a usb or firewire to my laptop?

since the hard drive is sata, do i need to buy an external enclosure that has an ide or sata internal interface?

This will not serve your purpose as you can see that this is an internal Hard Drive and it is for either SATA connection you would have to search for the Hard drive that has a usb or firewire connection.

Why not just buy an already made USB drive. I have a 160 G Seagate one and it does everything I need.
