gateway, because they have modulizied it, so hardware upgrades take less labor.

Any brand not bought at the store, is your best brand of computer (depending on who builds it). But if you have to buy it from a store, stay away from Dell, Compaq, HP and computers like these. HP usually uses good hardware, but they still stay in the loop of having to commercialize everything, which just slows your computer and operating system down down, and that's not a good thing. The best computers are the computers that you can build yourself, or have someone else build for you, because you know what's going in them, you can make them as fast or slow as you want, and you can put the best brands inside them when it comes to hardware. (Relating to someone building it,not trying to scam you and build you a piece of crap to profit off you by putting in very cheap hardware, and making money off you, like some of the big retail name computer companies do today very sneakily) which is now why you see Dell trying to sell you the idea of how they build to suit for the user now, which is a bunch of crap, because they are also going to charge you more just because you want it custom built. I build computers, and I build them with only the best hardware, unless a customer specifies they want cheaper parts installed, because they are on a budget or they won't be using a specific piece of hardware all the time so them may want to go for a cheaper part in a area. So to break it down, buy a custom machine always, or buy a Intel brand or IBM, or if you absolutely have too, a Gateway.
If you go the route of the "Apple" they are dependable, but not as compatible as a PC and some people out there, (like myself) would never work on one just because we consider them "Taboo".

The Toshiba Satellite U205-S5022 is for practical consumers who aren't big on style but appreciate the finer things in an ultraportable, such as an integrated optical drive, dual-core components, and a good bargain.
Price tag is very appealing. You get dual-core components instead of low-voltage solutions. Integrated optical drive.
The 8 hours of battery life and luggable chassis are the big draws on the Dell Inspiron E1405.
With a new Core 2 Duo processor and integrated 802.11n wireless, the XPS M1710 is still the gaming laptop that rules them all.
Hope these give you some computers to check out...

they all suck especially dell, the best thing to do is to custom build one, it is alot cheaper and you will have a more powerful system, i spent about 1700 on the system that i built, for the same system dell or alienware want about 3000-3500 for it
