Ther computer I am talking about is an old laptop that is hooked up to a monitor and I might have to mention that I only have 1.93 GB freespace (6% of harddrive) but I'm typing this question on the computer and it has no other problems other than sound. At first I thought it just stopped working because its old but then I remembered the other day that I was trying to free up space by removing programs and what I want to know is if I could have accidently deleted anything to disable the sound on my PC. Oh yeah, I have a keyboard with volume buttons wich I usually use all the time but when I try to use these keys nothing happens. Please help me anyone.

Above correct; check to see if it not muted and the volume up. Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control Should be where it at on an old one. Then if this all look good, many have a Wall Adapter for power to the speakers, check that it plugged in and then you may need a Volt Meter to see if it work. Look on the Square box that plug into the wall, it may say 9 V DC if it DC set the meter to DC at a volt range above 9 V (Volts) if it AC set the meter to AC above the adapters voltage so it not damage the meter.

Hi Ryan, not sure if you checked the following steps first: There should be a speaker icon on your taskbar, double click on it to edit your sound properties. If you cant find it there, try going to Start/setting/Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices ( WinXP ), that should give you access to your sound settings. Last step, check the drivers of your sound card or go to your Device Manager ( right click on My computer icon, then Properties, then Hardware, then Device Manager). Finally i would simply suggest you reinstall your sound card using the initial CD that came with your PC.

You could have disables the sound driver. Right click on my computer, go to properties, go to the hardware tab, and click on device manager. Then find your sound and if it has an x through it you disabled it, if that is the problem just rightlick again and enable should be one of the choices, click on that.
