my husband bought a laptop and we have a home computer but we need the router to work so he can get internet on the laptop, it is total crap the one we have, he'll have a connection for about 5 minutes then it just loses it? anyone else have these problems? and how did you fix them? thanks!

It sounds like u have an ip conflict in the system.... I have seen that in lot of cases :) . I m not saying its conflicting with another PC but if you are assigned an ip for remote administration it can conflict with ur computer

And i guess its a wireless router :) ... My suggestion is to get an access point instead of router coz u cannot configure lot of things if u r using router along with a DSL modem... Access point is the right device but most of the companies wants to sell their products thats y u hear a lot about routers now a days :D

What do you have for an internet connection?
That might be the source.
Follow the instructions that come with the router. They are very easy to follow and it walks you through step by step.

Its possible that the router is defective. Often times I have to unplug my wireless router for about 30 seconds and then plug it back in and my internet starts working again. Its also possible that it could be your dsl modem. Dsl modems go bad pretty often.

It would be easier to answer this question if you told us what model d-link router.

Most routers modern day broadband routers will work with the default factory settings pretty well, you just plug them in.

your internet service provider sounds like its the problem and not the router...
