I'm no expert but, this usually means a driver got added or updated that windows didn't like. You should tell your Dad. It may be that he installed something recently that the system isn't accepting properly. He should try a system restore before the point when the new driver was installed.

Sounds like you might have a virus so Disabling those items will not get rid of the blue screen of death. What you need to do is to re-image your hard drive. Most of the major computer manufacturers (Dell, HP, Gateway, etc etc) have an option that allows you to restore your system to the state it was when you removed it from the box. I would do that. Be wary, you will have to back up your data because restoring to the out-of-box state will get rid of any custom software and data files you have added since you turned on the computer the first time.

Look in the owners manual for instructions on how to do this.

Good Luck.

I always use the same approach if my machine
1 copy any data files to somewhere else (back up data)
2 install fresh OS - choose the option to delete the disk partition then recreate a partition

This IS irreversible, so you better know how to get it right...

Sometimes you can figure out what is making the BSOD but I don't bother any more.

Install Windows XP. It sounds like you're using Win98. Or better yet switch to Linux...
