I had a friend give me a laptop as a computer for my home. After I boot the username & password he provided me does not let me logon into the XP operating system. Does anyone know how to reset the user name & password or a work around pass the logon screen.

here is what i want... big screen... 15-17.....like to know what u think about that.......also... i want it to be an awesome entertainment center for watchin movies... lots of time travelin for baseball on buses.......want to be able to download music and play it .... want speed and reliability....want to play games on it ... so it has to have lots of ram....and has to do well for school.. so reliablity.......i also want it to be up to date for the next few years... ....jus inform me on what the benifits to certain processors are... how much ram and what kind... how much memory..... which pc deal is the best... ive been lookin mostly at HP... what kinda graphics card....whats gonna make difference and whats not... what kinda dvd player... jus all the basics on what i should look at and whats not all that important... also screen size and lightness.... jus give me some expert help

I bought a centrino hp laptop that wouldnt boot for 75 dollars. i think the problem is the video card. it is a replaceable ATI card. I disconnected the video cable from the card and reinstlled and it booted. Even loaded a system. But the laptop will freeze up, the screen jitter, or when loading the words are all misplaced and out of order. i.e. microsoft might be mi sot fost, etc. reseating the video card did no good but reseating the cable connector temporarily fixes the problem. Is it worth replacing the video card and does anyone know of a good website that discusses laptop video symptoms and solutions??

I have a Vaio and apparently the C: drive only has 300mb left, I don't download anything, don't store a lot of photos, AND I have tried deleting all the unneccessary files. It seems to lose space everyday. what's going on? It has 14 GB, what is taking up all those space? what can I do to free up more space? Can I transfer some to my D: drive, which has 37 GB? AHHHhhh...fraustrated~~

p.s. no viruses were found either, and I've been running the cleaner everyday. still no hope

I have a Dell latitude D500 which crashed sometime back. The problem is that now when I turn it on, the caps lock light flashes 10 times, there is no display and the laptop shuts down. I tried seraching for this and found this

I tried the solutions given on that link but it didnt help.
I had 2 questions:
1) Has anyone faced the same problem and has a solution u think might work?
2) If not, does anyone know of a reliable place where I can get it repaired (Out of warranty, so Dell is out of question as they are too expensive). I would prefer a shop in the bay area though a reliable online retailer would be OK too..

when the power cable comes out, the laptop turns off simple as that! it wont work unless the power cable is plugged in and turned on, and its not that the battery is flat because i had it charging all day.so does this mean the battery is broken?if so what do i need to do?? any help will be greatly appreciated!!

I left my laptop open last night on my desk while i was asleep and apparently my two kittens wanted to walk all over the keyboard. The screen has not rotated to the left which makes it difficult to use my computer. Basically the scroll bar thats normally on the bottom is now on the left, and instead of typing left to right, its going top to bottom. It cant be that hard if my kittens changed it right? At times when I switch on my laptop it says " beginning dump of physical memory." I am running Windows XP and the computer has a celeron chip. Could this be due to a virus, because I have a Trojan virus on my laptop which Norton cannot remove.

What is the cause of the cause of this and how can I remove this problem? Any freeware or shareware or trial versions of software that can deal with it will be appreciated.
