Laptops & Notebooks - August 2006

I'm leaning towards the Mac but I need some convincing. The Mac laptops seem to be more costly. I need help to justify the extra cost of a Mac....Why do I want one?

Has anyone had trouble with their HP Pavilion Battery not charging....therefore always having to be plugged in? Kinda makes it not as portable.

I have my laptop it work only with batery only.When i lug in my AC Adapter it turn OFF my computer rightaway.What is the problem? how can i fix it.Thanks much.

These two laptops are probably the same on the outside. But I have no idea which to buy. One costs 650 and the other is 900. The cheaper one has intel core solo which is 1.83Ghz. It has 512 memory and 80 GB hard drive. The other one has intel core duo, which is 1.6 Ghz. It has 1024 mb and 120 hard drive. I'm a student. Please help me find the right computer!!!

I have about $1000 to spend, maybe slightly over. im looking for something that will play games, so a dedicated graphics card is a must. I will also be using it for music, etc. basicly im looking for the most powerful machine i can get with what i have. 13" -15" screen. I have looked at dells and they seem to offer the best specs for price, but was wondering if anyone knew of any place offering anything better. Iv been cheated on ebay too many times, so im not looking there. If you could post a link with your answer, it will be much appreciated. Thanks!

Im thinking of replacing my Windows run laptop soon and really like the look of the new Apple laptops now I understand they dont run windows, my laptop is mainly used for graphics and things like that and I like to use programs like Paint Shop Pro and Ill need something like MS Office on there, also it needs to work on my wireless network that has 2 other Windows run PCs on there how can I get the new Apple Laptop to work on all this or do you use different programs?

I just bought a dell lattitude D820 and last night for the first time when I was ripping a CD it started making this *unusually* loud rumbling noise as it began to rip each track and then after a bit it began to just rumble constantly. I quit the process until I could find out if it was messed up or not. Does anyone know what's going on?

Hey,

I'm having a problem with my laptop. Whenever I try to log in the icons don't appear and basically it just won't function (it's frozen). I've been trying to re-start it but even the "Turn Off Computer" menu buttons won't appear. I've tried turning it off, removed the battery, reconnected it and started it up again but the result's still the same (and the screen just keeps getting fuzzier).

I'm not exactly the most computer tech savvy person either so it's really becoming very irksome. I'm thinking that the problem may have stemmed from the other day when I was trying to save some files on a floppy disk and the damn program wouldn't respond and ended up "hanging".

It would be a huge relief if someone could point me to the right direction on what to do.

Okay this is most likely why it is not working, for the longest time I used my laptop like a desktop computer... you know keeping it on for LONG periods of time... it would heat up and yah.. (Yah I know it was a stupid thing to do) and after a while the laptop wouldn't work with out the power cord being plugged in; it would no longer run off the battery power. Also I had to start keeping it elevated by putting books under it or else it would just shut down on me, or if the plug fell out it would shut down on me. Also the light on the power card doesn't even light up anymore... so I can't even start up my laptop...

I am thinking two things are wrong with it, first the battery is probably bust and second the power cord probably needs to be replaced, I already got a new hardrive for it, so I don't think that is the problem. So do yah guyz think it is just the battery and power cord I need to replace or is there something else?

I am using a hp pavilion zx5000
