I'm having problems getting sound to work on Xubuntu for my Armada 1750 laptop. I have CD music but I need midi and mp3 working. What package[s] do I need to get to get full sound on my laptop?

I haven't been able to get midi sound working either, but for MP3, MPlayer has always worked for me. Give it a try...I haven't run up against the file format yet that it can't play. If you don't like MPlayer, I've heard good things about XMMS as well, but never used it myself.

Good luck!

Help is on the way!

Go to http://www.easyubuntu.org/ to download the drivers needed to run sound, video, etc. As you know Ubuntu is Open Source while many of the drivers you need are not and cannot be included on the Ubuntu disk. However they are available at the above site. Download and install. Friends say the install is easy and they are very happy for this new Ubuntu feature.

i haven't used Xubuntu but for Fedora I use XMMS i used yum to get my packages. i do yum install xmms xmms-mp3 and it takes care of the rest. XMMS is identical to winamp and it works great. give it shot it should work for you too
