it really depends on a lot of things:
macs are the best in stability, but lack compatability with a lot of programs and networks.
compaq and gateway have the best price-performace ratio
sony have the coolest designs
toshiba, HP, IBM are my best bet
dell have poor support( you get a cheap one from ebay though, if your way around computers you wouldn't need the dell support and hence the best in dell)
