You should ask why. Maybe sometimes it's because you should watch what your child is doing on the internet. I'm not saying you shouldn't trust your child, I'm saying that you should just be careful. I don't think you're crazy for buying your child a laptop because I always use it in school even in Elementary School a lot and I was in a public school.
I think you should, but try to find not a really high-tech laptop just something that's cheap, but still good and you should make sure what she does--just to be sure.

A laptop would only distract a 12 year old from school work. It seems you are well on your way to spoiling your daughter by getting her everything she asks for, no matter how ridiculous. Talk to the teacher first, because a laptop might be a distraction for the rest of the class and the teacher will not permit her to use one during class. I agree with your friends.

If there is a family computer, I would certainly say that a 12 year old does not need a computer, and certainly not a laptop. At 12 years old, I would want to know exactly what my child is doing on the internet. An unsupervised child is provided with far too much opportunity to get themselves in trouble on the internet. I would recommend a computer in a common family area where it is convenient for you to see what is going on and to be able to provide guidance as to why certain behaviors on the internet are not safe. Before your child even connects to the internet, there should be ground rules as to what sorts of things you do not want your child doing and what sorts of information are not to be submitted or shared with anyone over the internet. I've seen enough news shows demonstrating the cunning of men that use the internet to contact children and have seen how dangerous these men are that my children will not have a computer in their rooms probably as long as they are in my house. Definitely not before they have proven that they understand the dangers and that they understand how to behave responsibly on the internet, and even then with the understanding that I can inspect what they have been doing on the internet. I'm not one to smother my kids, but in this case, there is too much opportunity for things to go terribly wrong.

it relatively is a competent question and that i will see the two facets. On one facet you do no longer go with to totally ruin a baby yet only the pc on it incredibly is own does not do the spoiling. to assert a six 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous does not comprehend the thank you to apply one is almost stupid too and you will placed locks on it sop that they are able to no longer circulate on the internet without password or in basic terms particular links are made available. My brothers circulate to a ok off college and enormously much absolutely everyone has a pc. people who have not got one are a t a draw back by way of fact there are maximum of that do. i'm getting jealous of it continuously however. My brothers did no longer ought to pay for his or her vehicles, desktops, clothing, food or something. I had to pay for each little thing. the pc thatI have real now for my family contributors is historical in spite of the incontrovertible fact that it relatively works. Now if he's relatively into technologies and that's his component then i for my section do no longer see the wear and tear. that doesn't propose that he ought to play with all of it dya. Restictions must be ther like something. as far by way of fact the age and not knbowing what to do with it.. if no person enable Behtoven play the piano whilst he grow to be a million then he does not have been a musical genius via the age of three. teenagers have much greater capacity than we provide them credit for. Who knows of perhaps he would be a working laptop or pc programmer whilst he's 8. I constantly theory it grow to be rediculous that youngsters have cellular telephones whilst they are 8 or maybe 13. Now that my teenagers are ageing I completely know it. in the event that they the place in concern thjat telephone ought to save their existence. i visit in all likelihood not at all beable to arise with the money for to grant my teenagers a lpatop or possibly a cellular telephone that youthful yet I see the two facets and that i guess some day all 6 3 hundred and sixty 5 days olds might have laptops that they create to college and shop all thier information in one place.

Check into her school...some schools (particularly private schools) are now requiring laptops for their students. Generally this is for high school students. But, I'm thinking if this were a requirement, you would have known about this, and not just take her word for it. Otherwise, I think it's a bit of an indulgence for a 12-year old. By the time she's 16, what else is she gonna want?

Most schools already have computers. If you have a computer at home, she doesn't need a notebook computer. If you don't have a computer at home, than desktop is the way to go.
Laptop can be lost or misplaced very easy. 12 year old girl can be a easy target if criminal knows she has $1000.00 machine in her back pack.
Wait until when she enter the college for laptop. Just my two cents.

she does NOT need a laptop. what kind of school would require a laptop....you should first know that she lied about that, and if you do get a comp. go to a professional and get blocks so she cant go to places like myspace. i dont care what ppl say about how great that site is, its called dateline. watch it. some sites are really horrible and a 12 year old is as smart because younger generations are smarter in technology. my cousin is 7 and is smart as heck on the computer.

If you get a used one, the whole family could use it as well. It would be good for everyone. I have never heard of a twelve year old needing a laptop for school though.

A 12 year old child can perform just as well as other student without a lap top computer. This isn't a requirement for intermediate school classes. I think it is too much for a child that age, besides just think of what she will come to expect by High School.

She's only 12 !!!! What is she going to do with that for school?? Come on, don't suffer the brain drain. I'm in university and I don't even need a laptop! You would just be spoiling her. And you know what ? I guarantee that only 5% of the time she spends on her laptop would be used for any school work at all. Please don't give in.
