The battery is dead. Laptop batteries have a limited number of charges. So if your laptop is older, this type of thing will happen. There are several online resellers that sell batteries for different laptops.

i bought a used dell laptop that came with a working battery. It would charge 100% and run for an hour or 2 on battery power. one day it just stopped working on battery power. The battery button showed it to be 100% charged. Bought a used battery off ebay and it solved the problem- The first battery was bad tho the indicator lights said it was good. Also, if some of the screws above the battery compartmentg are loose or missing this could cause a loss of contact. Had that happen once and just put in the missing screw and all was fine. Re: ebay- dont buy a battery just because someone says it charges 100%. I have and sometimes they charge 100% and last 5 minutes. Ask them to guarantee it will last at least 2 hours or dont buy it!!

I would look into a replacement battery.

If the problem continues, then the laptop might not be charging the battery properly. This can be because of the power cord, the connection between the battery and the dock, or even just a short somewhere in the circuitry. If that happens I would recommend getting it serviced or replaced.

Recharge the battery without using the computer at the same time. If this doesn't work you need a new battery and, obviously, someone to do the technical work. Try the geek squad at CircuitCity. It may cost you a little bit but they should be able to fix it or tell you if there is anything else that can be done.

over charging a battery will weaken the holding power, meaning the battery will not last as long so that could be a main problem, but your battery also could be disfunctional. You may want to replace the battery. If that still does not work then it is simply that your laptop cannot work unplugged.

You need to replace the batteries. You also have a battery on the main board (about the size of a quarter) that can cause problems if you don't keep it fresh. I suggest taking it to some place like Best Buy where they do things like this and have them install the batteries you need. Have Fun!

MOST notebooks have a switch on the motherboard where the powercord plugs in, to turn off the batteries. Sounds like that switch has broken.

You should be able to check the battery to determine if it's okay.

First you have to get a AVO meter and test if your battery does really have the right voltage printed over it, if no you have to replace it or replace the charger(into ur laptop), if no then you may have get your laptop to maintenance.

to make sure its the battery, find some one has the same laptop and try trading batteries for testing,

You are on the right track. It sounds like your battery has just died, and can't run the laptop. Check with the manufacturer of your laptop and see about replacement batteries.
