I recently bought a brand new Comstar 1 TB (Terabyte) Hard Drive for $179.99 with a data transfer rate of 480 Mbps, Data buffer of 16MB, seek time of <11ms, and RPM of 7200. Great deal... the electronics shop sold out within 2 hours of opening but, recently I discovered with the rapid change of technology and exponential growth of data storage, I am guessing within a year my HD will be used up by applications, software, video, music etc- especially with UHDV...
(6 G.B. per minute) With high quality movie production projects coming my way, my "small 1 TB H.D." will be used up so fast. I've read somewhere on the internet they were using stabilizing ferroelectric materials in conjuction with water to expand storage spaces capable with 12.8 petabytes. With technology expanding, the devlopment of exabyte Hard Drives will come maybe ten years. Can anyone clarify on this technology with transfer rates, and such?

Should i bother upgrading my dual core Pentium D with a core 2 duo. I've been thinking it'd be better for games i play. I've got a Geforce 7600 GT. Apparently there's a chance it could be bottlenecking my graphics? Is that the case with my current setup?

I remember faster and faster ghz was big. Then it kind of went down with dual core processors (for example 1.6 ghz dual core). How come they decided to pursue dual core and quad core technology which tops out at around 3.0 ghz instead of just continuing to up the single core processors to 4.0 ghz and beyond?

I bought a can of canned air to clean out the inside of my PC before moving. My PC is a big investment for me, I'm a college student with a very limited budget. I used as directed, and heard a crackling sound. Some of the condensing agent got onto my motherboard (and possibly other components), and when I tried to turn it on again the power supply was working, but the motherboard was not responding. There was no warning on the can and it is commonly known as the best way to clean out a PC. I would normally not want to make a big deal out of this, but like I said, my computer is a big investment for me and it will make it hard for me to either go without while I save money or to dip into my savings and buy one now. Help please, any other suggestions are welcome.

Hi, just got a LCD 17'' widescreen monitor

I love it! One of the best things I ever got.

I set the resolution to 1440 x 900 for best resolution (or what I'v been told.)
I have a game that cannot run1440x900 resolution so its either really small and does not fill up my screen or
its really large and fills up my screen (if I change it to 1024 x 768)

Is it ok if I keep changing the resolution or is completly harmless?

Wow, I feel like an IDIOT for asking now, but (and don't push it, I know a 13 year-old should know how to run a computer... heh heh) how can I possibly restart my computer? Like, the ctrl-alt-delete command isn't working and I have no way of accessing the start menu. I know not to unplug the computer (that would be a dumb move) so do I just restart it by hitting the off-button. I don't wanna completely wreck it. My dad always restarts it this way, but I think it's really harmful to the computer. Is it?

A couple days ago I bought a new computer that came preinstalled with vista a couple hours after the initial start up and updates I began to install various programs. When I started to setup Alcohol 120% my computer froze, went to the BSOD, and shut off. I can no longer get past the initial windows vista loading screen before it goes back to the BSOD and shuts off again. Booting in safe mode does not work, and the known configuration that worked is not even an option.

Also, the computer did not come with any form of windows install disk either, so I have no way of reformatting.

I just bought 2 gb on ram for my PC. I've checked and the PC that I own CAN have a max on 2gb, I also made sure that I bought the right type.
I just installed the ram and turned on the computer and there is no video signal. The computer powers up and all, just no video.
I also made sure that I grounded myself before touching anything.
If anyone could help me figure out what is wrong here I'd greatly appreciate it.

BTW right now I am going to try and put the old ram back in, to see if that will work.

Thanks in advance.

I got a new case (Raidmax Ninja).... should be quiet and cool well..... SHOULD... but mine is making a lot of noise, mostly coming from the side 45mm fan? + my M/B is reading at 50'C!! but my cpu is at 31'C!!( Data from Asus PC Probe II)... My specs:
--------------------------------------------
Power Case 500W Power Supply:
120mm fan exhaust
------------------------------------
Raidmax Ninja case:
120mm Front lower intake fan
120mm Rear exhaust from CPU/PSU
45mm Side fan intake
-------------------------------------
Intel P4 3.2Ghz
---------------------------------------
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 pro CPU fan
----------------------------------------------
ECS Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTS
----------------------------------------------
Asus P5KPL M/B
----------------------------------------------
It all seems like a great pc.... but wen i installed it all into the Ninja the 45mm fan was noisy... Maybe it is coz of PSU (X-Tec 400W) so i buy a new PSU.... STILL NO LUCK!

If I have a hard drive and it is 40GB, when I reload the windows and format it, etc... shouldn't I still have a 40GB hard drive?? It says that there is only 37.2 GB of space left... this is not with different partitions... I am loading it onto only one partition... Not sure if I am explaining this right... I do know though, there is only 37.2 GB of space... Where is the rest of the 40GB?

I bought a 1 gig RAM stick today, and supposedly it was compatible with my motherboard. Took out my 2 256mb RAM sticks. Popped in the 1 gig one, nothing happened. Try a different slot, nothing happened. Popped in all 3 at same time, nothing happened. Then I'm like "*** maybe this 1 gig isn't compatible"

Popped in my ORIGINAL 2 256mb RAM sticks and my computer won't start (everything starts like the fans and stuff, but the beep sound doesn't come that leads you to windows). I smell a burning plastic smell coming from my RAM sticks.

Is my motherboard f**ked?

Computer stats:
AMD Athlon XP 2500+
Motherboard: Asus A7N8X-E
FSB 400MHZ
DUAL DDR400

The 1 gig ram I bought:
Kingston Technology
1 GB
DDR Memory

Compatible:
400 MHz (PC3200)
333 MHz (PC2700)
266 MHz (PC2100)
