HP/Compaq motherboard name: HematiteXL-GL8E
its for the HP Pavilion Slimline s3120n Desktop PC

can it support the nvida geforce 8600 GTS video card?
if not, what's a good video card that my MOtherboard can support?

DEFINITELY, because your Asus motherboard has a X16 PCIe graphics slot. 8600GTS draws up to almost 50 watts. If your power supply has at least 18 amps on +12V rail and a 6 pin PCIe connector, it could handle the 8600 GTS.
