i'm building a new computer from the bottom up. I used to have a HP and still have the windows xp disk that came with that system. Is there anyway I could install the OS in the new computer I build? Would just plugging in my current hard drive work?

You are required to obtain a new software license. You will be violating the copyright regulation by installing software which was installed on your previous computer. It is not transferrable to another computer. The previous software had been registered with your old HP and its IP address of the old CPU. You do need a new copy or license for the system you are building. There are software available on Amazon.com and eBay at a great discount. You need to beware of the phony stuff out there.

That way you will end up making this HDD as a slave to the master on which you have the OS. You will need a OS copy to install the OS on your new system.

once you're making the cd acceptable and set your BIOS settings so as that your pc will boot from CD till now it boots from the aggravating force, it quite is going to boot. it quite is going to basically set up in the journey that your pc meets the minimum standards. although if it does set up, those standards improve as quickly as specific updates and repair packs are put in. in case you have under 512MB of ram and under 500mhz processor, i actually does not difficulty. verify out a number of the linux distro's! you rather need approximately 1Gb RAM and 750 + mhz processor to get XP working easily and contemporary. desire this facilitates, Dave
