I recently purchased CORSAIR XMS 1GB (2 x 512MB) 184-Pin DDR SDRAM DDR 400 with memory timings of 2-3-3-6. My motherboard (ASUS) is having a hard time recognizing the correct voltages and timings and I want to go in to the BIOS and set it up manually. I just need to know what exactly each number represents in the timings. Ex: CAS = 2, not sure if thats correct but that is what I need to know. Also what about voltages? I don't want to overclock it but I would like it to run as fast as it can without damaging it. The link to the actual memory is here if you need more specifications to help me out. Thanks!

My tv in my bedroom at the apartment is the same size as my computer screen , so I would like to be able to watch my cable tv through my pc,

I know this can be done cause I have heard of others doing it,

also , Is it possible to record something as I am watching it ,

say if a ocean show or somethign is on the discovery channel can I record it and burn it to a dvd.

as far as I know its regular analog cable, I guess I could call the cable company and ask , but its just the regular old cable people have had around here for years

I ran a system requirement test on FEAR on my computer and this is what I saw in the section of recommended in the test:

CPU Recommended: Pentium 4 or Athlon XP
You Have: AMD Sempron(tm) 3000+

CPU Speed Recommended: 3 GHz
You Have: 2.00 GHz Performance Rated at 3.00 GHz

What does rated at 3 Ghz mean?

Well, I decided to upgrade to Vista for free! Yippe! Yeah, well, before I do that, I want like a "list" or "log" of EVERYTHING on my computer. Is there anything that does that and tells me what apps and stuff I have on my computer? Thanks!

Well, I have good system specs on my computer like 2 GB's of RAM and 600 GB's of HDD Memory. The only question is that I want to upgrade to Vista Ultimate. Is this a good idea? It seems much better than XP security wise, but if not, I already have a good Vista GUI emulator so it looks exactly like Vista, just a little more memory added to it. What should I do?! Thanks!

I'm continuing this question I had, because I haven't figured out.

I have gotten rid of a few virus, and spyware/malware stuff. Spybot, Adaware, and AVG have done their part. I installed Eusing registry cleaner ... and it cleaned it up good.

I had this problem before I did these things, it's the only thing I haven't figured out the remedy to. Ok, it's freezing at startup. IT was freezing both at start, and at shutdown. Now, I have run those programs and PC-Doctor 5 and it didn't show anything wrong with the graphics, motherboard, etc. I did all the tests.

What do I do next. How do I determine what it is next?

Thanks, I'll award an answer!

I've heard stories that Disk Defragmenting can destroy your unit itself. How possible is that?
In my case almost every week/month i'm using it but it's not happening, thus my unit slows down. My other questions are why and how?

i cant use my restore disk because when i put it in (with computer off) it boots to a certain point and then the screen says in the top left corner "1782 disk controller failure". At the bottom of the screen on the left and right side, it says F1 Boot, F10 Computer Setup. Even when i go into computer set up and choose the option to boot from cd (or disk, whichever it was), it still wont boot from the restore disk. I have this problem even if im just turning on my computer to use without wanting to use the restore disk. Is there another way to boot up the CD and return to factory settings?

I checked to see what other processes are running at the same time and have cut them to the minimum. I've also disabled many start up items, and most background services. I have defragmented my system and physically cleaned the inside of my computer.
I have run some diagnostics using isSoftware Sandra Lite and think there might be a problem with power management, but I still can't figure out why my cpu usage stays at a constant 100% during gameplay.

HP pavilion a1220n
Windows XP SP2
Pentium 4, 2.93GHz
1.2 GB RAM

I think i might just drop kick this thing out the window.....

I think i have everything installed correctly. There is a led on the Motherboard that shows if there is power flowing, and it is lit up when i flip the switch on on the back of the power supply. So I know for a fact that the power supply works. When I hit the on button on front of the computer the fans inside spin for about 2 seconds and then stop, there is no beeps or other sounds like it is trying to start up just nothing.

Could the CPU not allow the computer to turn on?

I have DSL with the phone company on my old Dell (Windows ME) and it has a Westec modem. My new E521 Dell probably has a modem built in, but I can't find (Windows Vista - new to me) Device Manager to check (lol). Is this new Dell able to plug right into the phone jack without a Westec modem for the internet connection?

Me and my friend are having a debate on Microsoft and Apple and I love Microsoft and he loves Apple. He says Microsoft is just a big copy cat with everything and I insist that they are NOT. So I want to proove him wrong and give him things that Microsoft has thought of themselves. Can anyone help me out. Like Microsofts own desktop appearances and features.

When I go to power on the computer nothing happens. Yesterday the power light would turn on and the fans would turn on for a few seconds then everything would go off again.
I took out the power supply and tried it in a computer that only has a cdrom (no HD) and it worked everything powered on...
Am I right in assuming that this may be the mother board? Any help would be most appreciated!

Here are my comp specs:
Pentium D 3.0 Ghz
Asus P5LD2 Deluxe
Maxtor 250 GB @ 7200rpm
Nvidia 256mb 7300 LE GeForce

Im not sure what the number of watts are for the power supply, but Im assuming it was enough as the computer was working fine before.

Thanks in advance.
