I am going to build my own PC with a budget of about 700-800. I know how to assemble everything but I don't know what is best to buy these days. Does anyone know of a site or number I can call that will walk me through what parts I can purchase to get the best buy for my dollar?

Outlook crashes, takes so much time to load up, as does everything else. Word takes forever to get going and then can't even keep up with my typing. I have a brand new Dell inspiron 1521 with Athlon 64 Dual Core processor 1.70 Ghz, 894 mb RAM, 32 bit operating system.
Is this normal to be running so slow? Is it worth returning the Dell for an upgrade?
Thanks so much!!
Conor

Exactly two(2) days ago, I was ripping music using Window Media Player and my system froze up. In order to close the program, I had to disconnect using the power switch on my tower/hard-drive. Upon rebooting, I received a system error message stateing," Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt; Windows root>/system 32/hal.dll." Please re-install a copy of the above file. My question is,(How do I accomphish this now that I'm not able to re-boot my system?) Your assistance and U guys are greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ole-Skool.

I have a Dimension E510 . The computer was shut down and will not restart.
The funny thing is the powere button is blinking. I have unplugged everything
replugged and nothing. Still the blinking power button. I called Dell, my warranty is out
but they tried to help. They told me to unplug and then try. Obviously nothing.
They seemed to think i would need advanced troubleshooting. Before I pay, any ideas?

I'm getting a 650i motherboard, and this one's got a 1066/1333Mhz FSB. I'm wondering what's better: a CPU for a 1066MHz FSB with DDR2-1066 RAM, or a CPU for a 1333MHz FSB, and either DDR2-667 or DDR2-1066 RAM? I would imagine either the 1066/1066 or 1333/667 combinations, because those keep the frontside synced up with the RAM clock, but maybe there's something I'm missing.

In my computer i only have 1 hard disk, 1 DVD-RW, and no floppy drives. The hard disk is hooked into the motherboard by a SATA cable and not and IDE. When i tried to install XP Pro it at first didn't detect my hard disk. I went into BIOS and changed the drive type to IDE from SATA in order for it to show up in installation screen of XP Pro. XP runs fine like it is setup, but i want the drive type to say SATA in the BIOS instead of IDE. Is there anyway to do this?

I try the silders in the OC screen and put it up like 2 MHz (just to test it out). I enable the funtion and when i restart, my comp doesnt go past the Windows XP loading screen. My system is very cool ( my CPU runs at 34 degress at rest); what other factors may be present? Why does this happen?

I have an emachines pc that needs a new mobo. The mobo is a socket 478 and supports ddr 300 also in the specs is the chipset which is Intel 865. My question is, does the motherboard that I buy have to meet all of these exactly? I found a couple that are both 478 but ones chipset is Intel 865G and the other is VIA P4M900. Does it matter what chipset it is?

They both have onboard video and because my memory is ddr 300 does it have to support only ddr300 or can it support something higher?

And I want to upgrade my processor to this one show here... http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2643933&CatId=2758
The Motherboard compadability does not state it works with quad cores but the FSB is the same...I think the specs table might be out of date but I want to know if they are really compadable.

Help Please.

I'm about to purchase a 1GB RAM drive (or w/e the 2nd part of the name is) and I'd like to know how to change it. I have a basic outlook on how to, because my tech teacher told me how without opening a computer to actually.. show me. Now, he said it's easy, it seems easy, I'd just like to know what to look for so I don't pull out the wrong thing, heh. I mean buying a 1GB for my Dell (standard) 2400 desktop? I've had it for 4 or 5 years now, so I mean the guy at Best Buy told me which one to get. I know which one. But yeah, I'd just like to know what to look for and all. If you can help, thank you.
