you dont really need to most of the time. for your video card, processor, and ram, all you have to do is go to run, and type in dxdiag. it does a diagnotic of your system and gives you all the info about the video card, processor, and your ram. as for your hard drive, you can run the disk defragmenter and it will tell you how much space you have on your hard drive. for your motherboard and bios version, you'll have to restart your computer. when its loading up in the black screen, it might give you some numbers which are the bios and mother board versions. if it doesnt, you can go into setup and look around in there.

I've used Astra 32, downloadable at http://astra32.com/. It works pretty nicely for getting extended system information.
