i cant use my restore disk because when i put it in (with computer off) it boots to a certain point and then the screen says in the top left corner "1782 disk controller failure". At the bottom of the screen on the left and right side, it says F1 Boot, F10 Computer Setup. Even when i go into computer set up and choose the option to boot from cd (or disk, whichever it was), it still wont boot from the restore disk. I have this problem even if im just turning on my computer to use without wanting to use the restore disk. Is there another way to boot up the CD and return to factory settings?

Also check your HDD cable connectors to ensure a tight fit. OR try a new cable. If after a CMOS reset the 1782 error is gone and you are able to boot from CD, better back up your data. If error message appears again, your hard drive could be starting to fail. Once you start hearing clicking sounds on the hard drive, it is a clear sign that it is failing.

I have a way to resolve your problem,
You Just remove the CMOS battery from system board and boot once after booting shutdown your system and insert the battery back, again start your system and press F1 next time it won't ask you for pressing F1. And you will not get the error controller disk failure.

look at if there's a restoration partition decrease than My laptop. If now not you will choose a restoration disc as provided with the help of Sony with the laptop. If there's a restoration partition restart the laptop, press F8 consistently, while a menu seems elect the device restoration determination and from interior of there you may discover the alternative to restoration to production unit settings. If utilising the disc you will could enter the bios and boot from the disc first and inspite of the shown fact that persist with instructions to restore.

try cleaning the CD

otherwise I think you'll need a new disk .. you could try copying it using decrypt and shrink .. I have "cleaned" disks using this system .. have you tried to copy the disk with Nero? it also is rather elastic about faults on the original
