say if a ocean show or somethign is on the discovery channel can I record it and burn it to a dvd.

as far as I know its regular analog cable, I guess I could call the cable company and ask , but its just the regular old cable people have had around here for years

It can be done and it can be done very easily.

Depending on what type of TV you are wanting to watch it will require an add on card to be installed into your system. that is if you are wanting to watch your every day normal free to air TV channels.

There are also a few websites that port these channels to the internet but the quality isn't really crash hot if you are wanting to record things from it.

Now I am not sure what part of the world you are in but just about any computer shop will have one of these cards for you, I would personally shop around as the price of them can vary quite a bit.

To record off the TV/cable onto your computer you basically need the software to do it once you have the card, and in some cases when you buy a card it will come with software that will enable you to record also.

burning what you record to DVD is easy and you might want to encode it to a format that will give you the best quality video and sound. Once again there is a lot of software around the place that will help you do all of this. It ranges in price from FREE to many hundreds or thousands of dollars for professional software.

Also once again some cards come with this software when you buy them, and the choice of what you use to encode the video/sound will be totally up to you as some people find x codec better than y codec others find it the other way around.

Hope this helps you if only a little bit

There are a number of ways to do it... usually they boil down to either a usb solution or a card solution. The usb solution usually involves a box that you plug the cable into and then the usb is connected into your computer... the card is either a PCMCIA or PCI card which is inserted into the computer [depending on the type of computer you have] -- yes, some of the programs on the TV viewers for the computer do have a recording capability. Some of them even have a remote control you can use to channel surf.

You're going to need a set-top box. I have no clue what they are, but my computer told me I needed one to watch/record TV, so I'm just going to agree with my PC
