Itanium is now SLOW. There is no dual core Itanium. It is Xeon that is fast and also now uses Core2 Duo technology.
Simple multi-tasking benefits from a dual core. Multi-threaded applications including new games and symmetric multi-processing love dual and even quad cores.

depends on what you are running on them. Most software is not yet designed to maximize Core Duo processing so it is more hype than anything.

neither go with amd. cheaper and much much much more reliable with higher speed across the board. in more bus speed.
