And it refuses to burn dvds. It keeps saying at the end of burning a dvd that it was scratched or inferior. When it was a brand new blank dvd? Its peeing me off. So I figure I'll go buy 50 of the expensive dvds. And watch it do it again

What is the difference between the Pentium E6420, E6550 or E6850, etc?

Why is it so many manufacturers are still using E6420? Isn't it outdated by now?

Is there any specifics in each Pentium that I should take note of?

I'm building a computer, a desktop, and I wanted to see if these parts will work well together:
Processor
-AMD athlon 64 Fx-62, 2.8GHz, 2MB cache, Socket AM2
CPU fan
-Cooler Master Gemini 2, copper core/heatpipe
Motherboard
-ASUS M2N SLI, NVIDIA, Socket AM2
Memory
-Corsair XMS2 4GB (4 x 1GB) 240 Pin DDR2
Hard Drive
-Seagate Barracuda 7200.10, 250GB 7200 RPM
Video Card
-NVIDIA GeForce 8600GT, 512 MB DDR2
Sound Card
-Creative Labs Sound blaster Audigy SE
DVD/CD drive
-Lite On Super multi LH20A1H DVD Burner
Operating System
-Microsoft Vista Home premium, 32 Bit
Case

Also, If you know any stores beyond Newegg and Tigerdirect, I'd love to know. I'm trying to get these parts discount, so I can buy food too.

i while back my computer started to not work well at all.. wouldnt even shut off sometimes. i figure out i had some viruses or somethin so i took one of my two RAM cards out. i had 1gb of RAM now i only have the 556 i think. the computer works fine now that the one card is out. i think that means the problem is in that card? is there anyway to fix it myself because the computer is starting to fill up with stuff and getting slower i need that extra RAm back? what can i do.. i dont have a lot of money so a computer tech is porbably out of the question but if i have to hey. thanks

I currently use windows XP and wish to wipe everything and start again using windows XP pro. I'm reformatting because my computer is quite buggered with me not being able to download anything or install anything with somesort of error. I also have a virus and windows XP pro would be a nice update.

When putting in the windows XP pro CD it tells me that my current version of windows is newer than the CD and it wont install. I've deleted the update thing (i think its called SG2?) in my control panel -> add/remove programs but that didn't work.

I tried right clicking my C drive and hitting format but there are always programs running, even when I tried it in safe mode. Shutting them down does nothing.

I've tried setting my computer (in BIOS) to start up from the disk but it doesn't work.

I'm SOL and don't know what to do next. Help is appreciated.

I have a dell pc and im not really sure of the exact model that it is but if it gives you a better idea, it has no floppy disk drive or dvd rom. Just a plain ol' cd drive only.

Anyways, i had to restart it and when it came back the desktop icons were completley gone....even the start button. Just a blank wallpaper!!!

I tried to right click and nothing....i tried control alt delete and the only responce i get is a box saying the task manager has been disabled by administrator.

I must have restarted it with the button on the tower a dozen times and still they are not there.

Someone told me to start it in safe mode and choose the option that restores it back to its last working point, or something like that but before i could someone else told me that doing so will crash my computer permanently.

Does anyone know the truth of this? Is that so? If that IS true, then how do i fix this so i can have my pc back once more?
Without my pc buisiness to run i am SUNK!
PLEASE HELP!!

Firstly, please forgive my lack of knowledge about technology. I have seen people carrying around a tiny little 'key looking' thing that they plug into their USB ports. Apparently they allow you to transfer information from computer to computer, what are these things called? My mom is a writer and wants one for her bday but I can't look for them if I don't know what they're called. :) Also any websites where they're sold would be very appreciated!! Thanks!!

The computer will be used mainly for word processing, some spreadsheets, taxes, internet, foreign language software, and occasional games for our small daughter. I'd like to have the computer for at least a few years.

I'd like a computer that can do some video stuff--basic stuff. I'd also like to start saving lots of music to the computer, which I haven't on my 2000 Windows ME destop (I know, I know...)

So, first question--Based on the above, PC, Apple, or it doesn't matter?

First question--If PC, is there really any choice of OS, or is Vista all that's out there now?

Second question--Minimum chip speed, hard drive, type of burner, monitor screen size (I'm tossing the old 14" that's been with the current computer). The more info, the better. (Graphics and sound suggestions are helpful too if you have some off the top of your head.)

Third question--Any guess as to $$$ for your recommendation?

Thanks for any recommendations and information.
