perhaps you have a virus problem. if you do, try to install an antivirus program(AVG is free) then run it.

another possibility is that you dont have enough RAM or random access memory. try buying a new RAM so make it more speedy.

another thing. your FAN may not be working properly, thus resulting in your PC having temperature problems. check the temperature of your PC and see also if the fan is working. replace if necesassary XD

There could be some simple fixes. One: If the fans in your computer are not clean, this causes heat, which will slow and freeze up your system. Two: You may need to scan your HD for bad sectors, and de-frag your system to help clean up problems. There are several Window programs that will help, also Nortons and other helping programs. You need good air flow for your computer, don't keep turning on and off your computer. The computer uses less then a light-bulb to run. If it gets hot it will run bad. Keep your HD scanned and de-fraged every other week. Clean your temp files, cookies and other unwanted files also. The HD needs over 20% free at all times to work excellent. Don't get upset, I've been working on computers for over 20 years and I still get fed-up on them. I have some 8 year old computers and still they work fine after I have been working on them. Good Luck, and Learn all you can about computers, They will keep changing, but in many ways they are still the same. You'll be fine...

It might be caused by the excessive junk and buildup from the Internet.
1st You need up to date Virus Protection.
2nd go to google and download
Spybot Search and Destroy, and Lavasofts Adaware
Run both at least once a week.
Next click on your Browser and then go up to tools and scroll down to Internet Options and delete all the junk from there.
Next go start, and all programs and then accessories and then System tools and use disc cleanup. After you do all this it shopuld help if something more complex isn't the problem.

I had the exact problem with my desktop...

How much memory do you have? I was running w/512MB. I kicked it up to 1GB and all is well. I may have masked the problem, but it's solved. Now my desktop just runs and runs and runs. I haven't had to restart in weeks and it hasn't hung once.

It may not be your problem, but it sure was mine.

Good luck! And if you throw it out the window, make sure no one is below :)
