Best processor would be Intel's E6850. Pair it with a Geforce 8800GTX or Ultra and you've got an awesome and envious rig.

This is really highly dependent on how much you are willing to spend. For Gaming you need to shell out at least $1000 to get decent performance. That includes a decent monitor as well, so if you already have a monitor, knock a couple hundred off. In my blog, I have several Gaming build lists - two that are $1K builds (AMD and Intel configuration), and one $2K build. Look them over and if you have any questions, feel free to ask away.

it depends on how much u are willing to spend.
if u want i high end computer but not willing to spend a lot i woudl suggest a a core 2 q6600 (better for multi tasking and possibly even better for future games) or a core2 e6750/e6850(best for current games but weak for multi tasking when compared to the quad). as for a gfx card get a 8600gt or if u can afford more get a 8800gts, ram u shoudl get ddr2 pc800 2 gig corsair ram, and a motherboard get anyone u can afford BUT i woudl suggest an asus socket 775 (it has to be 775 for it to be compatible with the core2's) with 1066 mhz fsb (if ur gna get the quad) and 1333mhz fsb if ur gna get the e6750/e6850. with this build i think u will be able to play games released in 2010 with medium gfx @ 1024x768 resolution @ 20-40 fps (with the 8800gts)

fx series started getting out of date in the 2005! dnt listen to him.
