I have a dell pc and im not really sure of the exact model that it is but if it gives you a better idea, it has no floppy disk drive or dvd rom. Just a plain ol' cd drive only.

Anyways, i had to restart it and when it came back the desktop icons were completley gone....even the start button. Just a blank wallpaper!!!

I tried to right click and nothing....i tried control alt delete and the only responce i get is a box saying the task manager has been disabled by administrator.

I must have restarted it with the button on the tower a dozen times and still they are not there.

Someone told me to start it in safe mode and choose the option that restores it back to its last working point, or something like that but before i could someone else told me that doing so will crash my computer permanently.

Does anyone know the truth of this? Is that so? If that IS true, then how do i fix this so i can have my pc back once more?
Without my pc buisiness to run i am SUNK!
PLEASE HELP!!

FIRST of all, DO NOT FORMAT, RECOVER or do a fresh installation of Windows. You will lose your files.
If Win XP, try this XP self-repair procedure:

ALL your files will remain INTACT.

Your residing house windows have been given corrupted by some ability (ought to be that your hdd is having issues) and now considering the fact which you already had enabled the restart on blunders (is on by ability of default) the computing gadget gets right into a looping. interior the Startup and restoration window uncheck the directly restart verify container .. is in My computing gadget > residences > progressed > Settings > Startup and restoration

you can try restarting in safe mode, it won't make anything worse, you also try to restore it back to before it crashed like yesterday

push windows key + R then type or paste %systemroot%\system32\restore\rstrui.exe
