just a guess here, but do you have integrated video as opposed to a separate video card? the dxdiag tool may only be showing you the RAM less what is being used for the video system. I tested that tool on my pc & it shows the correct RAM amount installed, but I also have a separate video card.

There is no guess, It is your video, All computers need to run video, your RAM is divided up for that. There is no problem. Now since you have four slots you can buy more memory on each slot to increase your memory, especially if your a gamer who needs video memory. To buy memory, make sure you check the access speed, this will help to keep your speed up. The one with the slowest speed will be the one all others follow. It does not matter if one is 1 gig, and others are 1.5 or less, as longs as they work with your computer and fit correctly in your slots, Speed is the name of the game now. Good Luck.

Try to upgrade your Direct X and then check it again, i think its better to rely on my computer properties than the direct X because direct only show the digitally sign hardware in your computer and not the activities of your computer.

Sounds like a bad stick, you'll have to mix and match to find the bad one.
Oh, one side note Crucial is the best, many users expieriance problems with cheap ram.
