Initially I had a 1GB DDR400 stick of ram on my system. After installing another 1GB DDR400 stick, CPU-z reports my ram running at 157.8MHz. Anyone have a clue what's going on?

EDIT: Removing the new stick brings back my RAM speed back to 200MHz.

EDIT2: In addition, setting up both sticks to run in dual channel also mode brings the RAM speed back to 200Mhz. They are different 1GB DDR400 sticks: 1 @ 3-3-3-8 (Crucial); the other at 3-4-4-8 (brand unknown)-- is it okay to run them on dual channel?

If the mobo is made for 4200 ddr2 533mhz ram would a 5400 ddr2 667Mhz work? Only reason i'm asking cuz i've found ram that is cheaper for the 5400 ddr2. Would it just slow the 5400 ddr2 to a 4200ddr2 cuz im ok with that.

i wanna get the Dimension 9200, but then im reading that the inspiron desktop 530 is good. I went to dell and added up my system, they both were about the same price $1500. Im not a gamer, but i have alot of music, movies, documents and stuff. So what is more quieter, faster and has the least amount of problems. Thanks So Much

I have a HP desktop with windows xp. I had to use a system restore and lost all my data. No big deal. I don't really keep anything important on the computer other than kids pictures. I got those back. I did have to get a pcanywhere program I use for work reinstalled-a pain as I had to get someone who has better things to do to do it. A friend of mine put some program Getdataback or something rather (I don't know much about computer lingo) on and got the pictures that he could find. Now my computer has a d drive that is completely full. I keep getting a low memory message. In the middle of working sometimes programs go black I get memory error messages. I want to delete some of the files on that drive but it has some partition on it and I can't get access to it. I can't even see what is on there? Is there anyway to get on that drive and erase stuff so my computer will get memory back? I follow instructions well but am pretty computer illiterate.

I leave it on all the time. I always turn off the screen when i'm not using it. Is leaving it on all the time really bad for it? It takes a while once it starts up to get to normal speed, so I hate to turn it off. Any opinions?

In my last question I told you guys how my computer couldn't find Windows XP after a power outage. I was able to use an XP CD to reinstall windows. I am not sure if I've lost all of my documents yet. So after installing, it takes me to another black screen with white lettering saying something like: we are sorry, windows cannot install. If this is due to a power outage or if you are not sure why, please pick the option closest to when your computer was last logged in. So it gives be 3 safe mode options, and the regular windows XP option. I've tried all of them, and it takes me right back to that same screen no matter what I do, help!

I am thinking about upgrading from a Pentium D 3.0Ghz, to an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600. I just want to know if upgrading my MOBO is necessary. The MOBO came with a customized PC from Dell (XPS 400). I'm assuming since the Pentium D is dual-core, I should be able to upgrade without any problems, but I am a real noob when it comes to this kind of stuff. Please give me your input, thanks!

Hey all. I've got a new Dell Dimension E521 that came w/ integrated graphics. It's got a 305W power supply and I don't think (but don't quote me on this if you know better) it's got a power plug for a graphics card. I slapped a 256 MB nVidia 8500 GT in there (I've got a PCI express slot) and I'm not overly pleased with its performance in games, though I do think that Vista runs more smoothly now. As I understand it, my graphics card upgrade options are limited by my power supply. What do you think is the best graphics card that I could use in this situation? Maybe a higher end 7000 series or something else by ATI? Would an nVidia based 8600 card be significantly better? I know that this system is not a top of the line gaming machine or anything, but I want to see what my options are.

Thanks for the help folks!
