I have a HP desktop with windows xp. I had to use a system restore and lost all my data. No big deal. I don't really keep anything important on the computer other than kids pictures. I got those back. I did have to get a pcanywhere program I use for work reinstalled-a pain as I had to get someone who has better things to do to do it. A friend of mine put some program Getdataback or something rather (I don't know much about computer lingo) on and got the pictures that he could find. Now my computer has a d drive that is completely full. I keep getting a low memory message. In the middle of working sometimes programs go black I get memory error messages. I want to delete some of the files on that drive but it has some partition on it and I can't get access to it. I can't even see what is on there? Is there anyway to get on that drive and erase stuff so my computer will get memory back? I follow instructions well but am pretty computer illiterate.

First of all you don't really need a system restore on drives other that C, as all the changes made on others drives are lost, well my own opinion here...

Secondly, Always save your important data on drives other than c....

now to make space on d... you have to follow these steps...

right clik on MYCOMPUTER icon,
click on SYSTEM restore TAB.
click on Drive D
click on settings
put a check mark on TURN OF SYSTEM RESTORE ON THIS DRIVE
press ok, and do the same with rest if you want.

Now goto D drive, Click on TOOLS menu on Top.
click FOLDER OPTIONS
goto second TAB, VIEW
select SHOW HIDDEN FILES AND FOLDERS,
uncheck HIDE PROTECTED sys files,

now you can see "system volume information" folder on drive D... delete it, and you'll get quite a lot of memory recovered.

Get your buddy back to work on your puter. THIS time have him SHOW and TEACH you what you need to know. While you two are at it, add a memory stick or two if they aren't already there. This will increase your memory. Your friend will know about that if they know anything about computers at all. ;)

After that, burn all extra files you want to keep to CD so you can delete them off the computer freeing up space while being able to keep them for future use.

Your description is quite confusing so it's going to be next to impossible to give you CORRECT instructions as to what you need done.

sounds like the get data back is filling up your drive with older files, at one point they where deleted now you have all of them back .. you need to know what files you want to keep! and delete the others! this is going to take some time and greater than basic knowledge..

You should get an external hard drive and save all your files and pictures then reformat that partiton if it has nothing important and reinstall Windows XP.
