I have a problem in my PC. I usually played games in my PC but now I can't. When I play a game, after some time it freezes and PC locks-up, then I need to reboot. When the PC freezes, I hear a loud screech, an annoying loud sound. The PC works well for everything else than games. All games freeze randomly. My PC:

Well you DONT have a NVidia FX-5200

NVidia doesn't make a single Video card they make the chipset for other Companies to make the card

Many of the FX-5200 cards were made with a COOLING fan
my ASUS FX-5200 has one
a fan can make a loud noise either constant or just
as the power is removed from it LIKE a SHUTDOWN

sounds like when you really work the Video card with
high triangle counts from games it has a problem

Clean the Fan it may be full of DUST

If it doesnt have a fan then you may need a new power supply
the FX-5200 runs off a 3.3 volt from the power supply

I wouldn't suspect the Micro but it wouldnt hurt while you were
examining the Video card to peek at the CPU fan

When a pc freezes during processing large amounts of data it is either the memory or the processor is being over worked.

You have a fairly fast processor and a gig of ram, I would suggest another gig of ram.

As for the loud screech it may be the hard drive.

Also optimizing the OS will help with somewhat, when you play a game almost (not all) programs will be swapped out to the swap file, where is it located?

Stoppage could be due to GPU overheating because there is something wrong with the video cards cooling fan. Better replace that slow FX 5200. You have a good cpu/RAM set up but your graphics card sucks.
Cheap option - ATI 9600 Pro
Faster option - 7300GT AGP or 7600GS AGP

Well, if you are playing a really tough game such as Flight Simulator X (many complain that game lags on fast computers), then it is normal for most computers. Most likely, upgrade your video card. FX5200 is not really a good card, not good for gaming. Try getting a new video card such as a good one with PCI Express x16 (If your motherboard has one of these slots) , or if not, get a faster AGP card if your graphics card is AGP (like GeForce or Radeon X1XX)

Well good luck with your computer
