Plugging in a drive is easy. Loading Windows and all the drivers and software you need can be an all night marathon.

I agree with Chris. Dells have always been relatively easy for this sort of thing (although the only other computer I've done it with was a Gateway). In order of difficulty:

1. Install an external hard drive via USB port.
2. Install a secondary internal hard drive.
3. Replace existing hard drive.

For 3., it's not really "hard," per se. It is just much more involved. Follow instructions exactly. Look at a site like http://www.fonerbooks.com/r_hard.htm

It depends on the Model and type of hard drive.

I had no problems putting in an extra. By default, it should be recognized as a "slave" drive versus the main drive if you are simply adding an extra one.

If you are replacing the main Hard Drive, then it can be exponentially more complicated and would not necessarily recommend a novice trying it... It would require you to reload an operating system and hardware drivers...
