It is powerful on the processing side and all the features except that it lacks SATA ll and its graphic card is entry level (SLOW for gaming). Upgrading to a "future proof" DX10 card like the 8600 or 8800 series may mean a power supply upgrade too.

The key to long PC service life is ease of UPGRADEABILITY. Unfortunately, many OEMs use proprietary parts that restrict upgradeability because they prefer that you buy a new system. Many gamers and enthusiasts prefer custombuilt PCs so they could choose the best/full-featured motherboards from Asus, DFI, etc., hi-performance RAM from OCZ, Mushkin, Team Extreme, Geil, Kingmax, etc., the best Aluminum case from Antec, Lian Li, etc., the best cpu cooler from Thermalright, Zalman, Scythe, etc. and the best graphics card. Custombuilts are also so upgrade friendly and easy to DIY.

It will do for a while. I would upgrade the video. Its ok for some gaming, but that really needs to be at least 256mb in a PCI card. Better yet 512mb PCI-X

Can probably build a better one a lot cheaper.

Don't buy a dell if you are looking into upgrading for the future. They aren't really build it yourself friendly and the card u want won't fit.
