My computer guy told me that its OK to leave my PC on all the time otherwise it'll cause more wear and tear to the hard drive if I constantly turn it on and off. But I really don'y like to see the thing running 24/7, should I turn it off when I sleep because I'm afraid the thing will burn up if i leave it on all the time???

I was wondering which processors are faster...and what's the best way to compare the speeds of an Athlon to a Intel? And if you have a dual processor...and your speed is say 3ghtz...does that mean your speed is actually 6ghtz because of the 2 processors?

I'm lookin to buy a new computer system made for the new and future generation of games for the PC. Would a duo or quad processor be better than a 6GHz processor (is a quad 2.4GHz processor the similar to a 9.6GHz single processor).

my cpu is a pentium D 3.2ghz dual core and with the stock fan heatsink unit i am getting 58C at idle and up to 80C at full load. once i got up to 88C which scared the hell out of me as the breaking point for this processor is 96C. i need a better cpu cooling solution that does not involve liquid.

Ok... long story short... got the amazingly annoying "winsrv" error blue screen of death after trying to instal SP2.

I know the processes as far as recovery go...

But... will using the "repair" console OR reinstalling windows...

will that erase all my documents? (pictures, music, word files)

i want to build my first ever pc system for personal use like word typing, internet, email, uploads digital cam videos, store loads and loads of pictures from photo album (really HUGE).

i have come up with the following spec:

Asus P5W DH Deluxe (Intel 975 - 1066 FSB Conroe)
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Retail (2x2.4GHz 1066FSB 4Mb)
OCZ DDR2-800 2x1024MB
BFG Nvidia 8500GT 256MB PCIe
Windows XP

wil the motherboard, processor, RAM and graphics card work well together?

shall i use the heatsink and fan included in the processor box or use the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro CPU COOLER?

and also the WiFi icluded with the motherboard, will it be able to pick my internet wirless connection?

do i have to buy an external graphics card to connect to the monitor? which one would you recommend?

i also plan to use a 80GB hard drive for win XP and applications and a 320gb hard drive for data? is that good or bad?

any comments or suggestions please?

I am upgrading an only Dell Dimension 8100, and the highest processor possible for this old motherboard is a 2.8Ghz, the next is the 2.6Ghz. The 2.6 would cost $67, the 2.8 would be $169, is it worth the price for the additional 200 mhz in speed?

I'm looking for a fast, high-powered, versatile computer for video & photo editing. Should I go with a PC or a Mac? I know that I can get more computing power for less money with a PC, but Macs seem to be more suited for graphic work. For PCs or Macs, is there a particular model that is recommended for these tasks?

Ok heres the story,

I'm looking at buying a new PC (only the actual base PC, no screens or keyboard or anything like that.
I want it to be quite fast with good graphics card and decent RAM.

First question: I know a lot of people with high spec computers have cooling.... does having a these powerful components generate more heat? Or do they run cooler than normal components because they do the job without really getting out of first gear?

Secondly: What options do I have when it comes to cooling? Advantages and disadvantages of each would be great
