512mb RAM and a regular hard drive are fine for me. I have a laptop with 512mb RAM and a 5400rpm HD and it runs without a hitch. Your hard drive has little, but not nothing, to do with how fast these things run. If you are going to be doing a lot of gaming go with atleast 1GB of RAM and a faster hard drive. Speed, not size, is what makes a hard drive run your apps quicker.
