I have an X-Blade custom gaming computer and my question is this, I shut it down every night before I head to bed, is this good for it? Or is it better to leave it on all the time? My parents leave theirs on all the time with no seemingly negative effects. However the reason they do this is, a friend of ours who works with computers doesnt seem to think its very good when you shut it down every night. I would like to get some other opinions on this matter. TIA and all the best, Jon

I don't have a GUI, Graphic User Interface. The computer currently has XP: Pro on it that doesn't have not one, not even the Safe Mode Admin, Profile on it. I have a good XP:Pro Disc, I try to repair the system with it, doesn't work because a Admin password that no one in the building knows. I've tried Recovery Console. I've practically tried everything in the book. I think I just need to clear EVERYTHING from the hard drive. One thing...I have not been taught how to do that properly; I've tried a powerful magnet, but I don't think that's the proper way. PLUS, I've never done the proper way before, are there any precautions and correct materials? Please, I need to erase the current corrupted OS and install the new one with no GUI, How do I do this? Email me if you have list of troubleshooting that might take awhile. Reward for the best.

When I plug in any HD or CDRom to my motherboard in IDE1 and IDE2, neither of them receive any power. However when I unplug the ribon cable from the HD or the motherboard, both get power. Obvious problem...power with no connection to the motherboard is useless.

Any suggestions???

Unfortunately, I wasn't performing regular backups. I tried to do a Windows repair, but the option wasn't available. Luckily, I'm able to copy the data from the drive to another drive before I reformat.

I'm considering a few different options for backup solutions:
1. Backup to 2 external drives, using Norton Ghost. I was thinking of using 2 in case 1 fails.
2..Set up a RAID configuration with 2 internal drives (not yet sure how to do this

Which one of these is a preferable solution? Any other suggestions?

Also, is it any better to install only the OS on 1 drive, and then install all other programs & keep most data files on another drive? I was thinking that if my OS ever failed again, I could reinstall the OS and since my applications are on another drive, I wouldn't have to reinstall them.

Also, I'm considering installing the OS on a Raptor drive to make the PC boot up and run faster, Any opinions on if this would be worth th extra drive cost?

Thanks for everyone's advice!

Please it is worth it to buy a new PC or upgrade? I don't use it for anything but light music, instant messaging, and word processing and thinking of buying/upgrading and getting power point. My rig is -

Intel R 1.4 Ghz Processor, 384 MB SD RAM, Windows XP Home Edition, and a very old graphics card (but I don't play games or photo shop)

Buying or Upgrading? Recommendations for either?

My computer slows down after being on for a long period of time. It's fast when I first start it up, after a long time it slows down it's reaction time. I check for viruses and nothing. The temps are correct. My heat sink loosened up and was a little off of but I tightened it back down. Could I have damaged the processor ? I reinstalled windows XP and some other basic programs and games. Still having the problem though, flies when I play games at first.

I have a Asus An8SLI Deluxe,
X - Mars Heat sink
AMD 3000 vience
2 gig mem
60 gig hd seagate
Viking Thermaltake Case 2 x large front and back fans
E geforce 7800 GT video card

I built this computer, but know much about software issues.

I have a HP Pavilion 4455 built in 1998. The fans are extremely loud at all times. I have another computer built in 1998 and its really quiet. The iMacs in our school which were built in 1998 are mad quiet. My computer is pretty low end so it has no purpose for being loud! Specs: Intel Celeron 400MHz, 64 MB ram.

Yesterday, before I turned it off, the computer froze; but I managed to turn it off. Today, I could not turn it on completely. The internet connection is on; but as soon as the computer is turned on, a beeping noise is heard between intervals and the screen is not turned on at all. I would like some professional to advise me; I already have searched and it brought up that I need to replace something in my hard drive. I anyone needs more information, email me and I'll try to provide you with it if possible ASAP.

If anyone has accomplished this, i wish to know how
If anyone thinks it is possible, then again i would wish to know how
Windows 3.11 resides on FAT16 platform (MSDOS 6.22)
The Pentium 4 is a 32 bit processor, will it allow FAT16
which i guess it should
but then where do i get the various device drivers for Windows 3.11
I need this real bad as I am unable to get further support for IDE cards in the original 40486 DX2 workstations & time is running out
Proprietary software is used to run these workstations & if anyone could guide me in this direction
I have been able to go upto Pentium 1, 200 MHz ... no higher & any help would be greatly appreciated
