Friends dont let friends drive drunk...or buy Macs! Dont waste your time trying to convince anyone, I would laugh at anyone trying to get me to get a mac!

I'll be honest: I'm a PC guy and will never switch to Macs, so my opinion may be bias. Again, just being honest. Unfortunately, these are troubling economic times, and people tend to stick with what they know, hence why such a drastic switch from PC to Mac will be met with resistance. In regards to price versus performance, Macs still cost more than a PC of equal value. What is most attractive about Macs are the cute look they have, an almost seamless support with iTunes, and the simplistic, bubbly interface they provide. However, buying a Mac over a PC is like buying a $30 shirt and paying $100 for the little alligator. If you take a Mac and a PC with pretty much the exact same specs, you'll find that you are still going to pay between $100 and $300 more for the Mac, because they can charge you for it and since it's a fad, people will continue to pay for it (oh the lessons of supply and demand) Another thing to think about is all the software your family has... it won't work on the Mac unless it specifically says it will. You'd have to buy Mac-friendly software, and that's like double-dipping into your family's funds. Lastly, and probably the most important right now, is that you apparently just got a laptop, meaning that it has at least 3 more years before you can even begin to call it obsolete. My advice, if you REALLY want a Mac, is to sell your laptop, raise the money yourself, and pay the difference between the two. Then you'd have your Mac without your family having to fork out the extra cash for it. Be warned that your parents will be a little ticked that you sold your laptop under the value it's worth. EDIT: the graphics of a Mac are actually not as good as a PC, which is quite ironic considering how many graphic designers swear by Macs. There are articles about this everywhere. Also, printers and such may still work with Macs, but it may take some time to track down the drivers. And whomever says that Macs are more secure is completely full of it. Macs crash all the time and because of the new fad of owning a Mac, hackers are creating all sorts of exploits for Macs, which means that you can be affected as well. Don't listen to anyone who says that Macs are more secure, because they're living in the dark ages when hackers didn't care about Macs... they do now.

With the Intel chips installed, the new Macs can now run Windows-based software. PCs can run Apple software too, but it takes a hackers skills to do it. The Apple operating system is much more stable (at least over XP - don't know about Vista), and the security on a Mac is probably a lot better. If he's doing video or graphics work, its probably the best way to go. I love my Mac!

Give them the money to buy one...they are far too expensive. You can get a similarly spec'd PC for a lot less. I'm glad you like your MAC. Most people I know that have a MAC, which are very few people, can't stand it.

As far as security goes, MACs are not really that secure over a PC. It's only because Windows PCs have a much larger user-base and are targetted more for attack that they 'appear' to be less secure. I use Linux as well and as its user base grows, I notice more and more security updates coming through. Same goes for the MAC.

Show them what they can do with a Mac and they're likely to switch.
Add the cost of and maintenance of an Antivirus, Spyware programs, and the rest of the junkware that comes loaded with PCs these days.
"Save money on repair costs when your computer gets infected with a virus..."
I'm a happy Mac user - and I'm a PC technician.

Simple!
Let them run Vista on a pc for a week or two.
They'll soon be sick of the constant hassle of trying to run software they will give up.

Personally , I think all Windows and Mac users should switch over to Linux - it is the most stable and secure of them all.

The main reason most people stay with PC is it's cheaper. If you don't have the cash for a Mac then your stuck with a PC.
