The Sempron would be better in games. In office applications, the difference would not be so noticeable. But many Sempron64 could overclock to 2.4Ghz on a good motherboard. That's real bang for the buck processor.

The AMD is likely to perform better. The reason the Sempron is called a 3000+ is beacuse it operates to a similar level to a 3Ghz Pentium processor.
It operates at 1.8Ghz, but is more efficient, so gets as much work done as the equivalent 3Ghz.

The P4 is the better chip. The Sempron is an economy chip.

I prefer you you to use amd because currently i am using P4[2.4GHZ ]and has got a heating problem,it get's heated very soon and amd doesnot have any heating problem.

sempron is like a celeron chip..
although its 3000 , and the p4 is 2400.. dunno the speed of the p4. in ghz...
better to get x2 amd or something.. it's all about the dual core =)
unless your getting the chip itself for peanuts.
