is is possible to install a 32 bit OS on this processor? Sorry for the dumb question, but i'm unsure how it all works.

get 32 bit OS there is a lack of drivers for 64 bit and u will notice no diffrence. 64 bit is when u have 3 or more gigs of memory to do high end encoding n stuf like that. u do not need 64 bit.

I also have a dual core Amd and the deciding factor for me was the few applications out now that utilize 64 bit processing and also some of my hardware does not have 64 bit drivers available. I have installed 64 bit XP and 64 bit Vista, but I eventually went back to 32 bit versions due to driver availability.

Yep you sure can install a 64bit OS....
...providing all your hardware have 64 bit drivers
...providing all your applications have a 64 bit binary
If everything you want to do on your computer has 32bit code you will get very limited benefits.
